2026 Food Trends

The restaurant world is changing fast. This year, there have been record numbers of dining in January. People are eager to leave their house and want to dine out more.

It gets tiring ordering the same brussels sprouts from every restaurant. Food in restaurants is starting to taste the same, and there are reasons for blame. Major food distributors have taken over restaurants countrywide, contributing to the overall similar flavors.

In 2026, restaurants should start focusing on familiar foods with homestyle touches. Forbes reported on what chefs believe will be in-trend in 2026: this post will view these trends from a Public Relations prespective.

Dining Experience

People want food that tastes real. Restaurants can start defining themselves through their menus. Locally sourced food has become a trend itself. People are craving a dining experience, rather than “Instagrammable” dishes.

A way to add to the experience could be small touches such as welcoming hosts and engaged servers. Comfort and nostalgia bring familiarity to guests, which is what the people are hungry for.

Intimate spaces and friendly service go a long way now. Ensuring a safe space for employees as well as customers can benefit turnover rate and the overall happiness of many stakeholders.

A New Space

There is a new yearning for third spaces in America. A “Post-Covid” world has introduced new opportunities, such as asynchronous work. People can work wherever they want. Longer hours and openness will invite people to come in. A new possibility for restaurants is to develop a third space.

Weekday dining is becoming more popular. Create new reasons for customers to come in on weeknights. A special menu or happy hour can draw attention and business fast. Food that feels special can evolve a dining experience and create personality within the restaurant.

What To Cook

Regional specificity encourages local food sourcing. Creating dishes that are familiar to all, but include special touches of unique local tastes. Take note of what your city has; Milwaukie Oregon, home of the Bing Cherry, takes pride in the fruit and create variety treats across town. BTW, Bing Cherry ice cream is fantastic.

The quality of food is very important now. Wellness is a trend that is taking the nation by a storm. A stand-out health food is anything fermented. Fermentation has taken off in popularity. It is so cheap to make and so good for your gut.

Turn everyday dishes into luxury. Farm-to-table isn’t always possible, but building onto what was mentioned above: adding personal touches can change the dish.

The dining experience has changed, the need for third spaces is eminent, and locally sourced food is obtaining luxury status. To utilize these popular trends, a commitment to resourcefulness is needed.
